Facial Trauma
There are a number of possible causes of facial trauma, such as motor vehicle accidents, accidental falls, sports injuries, interpersonal violence and work-related injuries.
Typically injuries can be divided to
- Injuries of the teeth and supporting structures (dentoalveolar)
- Soft tissue injuries to the face
- Bony injuries involving fractures or dislocations
- Injury to specialised structures (eyes, salivary glands, facial nerves)
Typically many of these injuries are managed by Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in the public hospital sector, however non-acute injuries can also be managed in the outpatient setting, particularly where reconstruction or revision may be required.
