Facial Trauma

There are a number of possible causes of facial trauma, such as motor vehicle accidents, accidental falls, sports injuries, interpersonal violence and work-related injuries.

Facial Trauma

Typically injuries can be divided to

  1. Injuries of the teeth and supporting structures (dentoalveolar)
  2. Soft tissue injuries to the face
  3. Bony injuries involving fractures or dislocations
  4. Injury to specialised structures (eyes, salivary glands, facial nerves)

Typically many of these injuries are managed by Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in the public hospital sector, however non-acute injuries can also be managed in the outpatient setting, particularly where reconstruction or revision may be required.
